Hi, guys,
als IRC junkie hab ich immer Interesse an workable IRC solutions. So weit
vielleicht interesse.
viel spass!
Doris

Hello all,
I submitted this message yesterday with the wrong subject header. It is
important material, so I am submitting it again for any of you that may
have missed it:
There has been some interest in the past about using JAWS and speech
synthesis for IRC (Internet Relay Chat). SET-BC (Special Education
Technology British Columbia) and CNIB (The Canadian National Institute for
the Blind) recently held Summer Camp 98 for visually challenged teens on
beutiful Bowen Island British Columbia.
{qoute from the web page:}
Early in June 1998 the search began for a Windows95 based chat program for
text-to-speech based chat over the internet on IRC (Internet Relay
Chat). This technology was deemed ideal for the visually impaired and blind
students attending the Bowen Island Summer Camps. After trying
several programs, Pirch98 was selected as the easiest IRC chat Client to
set up and modify for this purpose.
In its barest speech configuration, Pirch98 was lacking in some significant
ways for the intended application. Since the program is completely
scriptable, expertise was sought to assist in the modifications that were
desired. The desired help was found online in #Pirch98, the undernet Pirch
help channel. SET-BC and CNIB wish to acknowledge the tireless efforts of
two of the regular members of that channel, Raz and Captive who spent
many long hours of trial and error helping the technology support team
achieve the final configuration of the program. Although the final
configuration is quite usable, those who wish to explore further
enhancements and modifications would be wise to seek assistance from this
this excellent online resource of knowledge and good will.

The custom configuration, although not a purely JAWS based solution will be
of some interest to readers of this list. The instructions and downloadable
files are available at:
